Twitter introduces “soft block” function: this is how it works

Twitter introduced a new feature that allows you to remove followers without blocking them. The action is also known as a “soft block”. The social media platform started testing this feature last month and will now be accessible to every user. To silently remove a follower or to soft block someone, you need to go to your profile and click on followers. Then click on the three dots next to the follower you want to remove and select “Remove this follower”.
The soft block is very different from the block in that users can still access your tweets and profile. They are also allowed to send you direct messages, but they won’t be able to see your updates in their feeds. The users are also allowed to follow you again. Until now, the only way to remove a follower was to block it.
This new feature is part of the platform’s anti-harassment efforts. Last month, Twitter also started a new feature called. to test Safety mode that automatically blocks accounts that use potentially harmful language. It is not yet clear when this new feature will be introduced, but if you look at the release of the soft block feature, it is expected that this feature will be released soon.
Recently, the platform has also improved the quality of video and live broadcasts. To improve video quality, the company removed a preprocessing step in its video pipeline during the upload. The removed step that divided video into smaller sections for recording. The extra processing that is used to degrade the quality of the video. To improve the quality of the live broadcast, Twitter removed the option to invite guests when you go live. In March last year, the function was introduced to invite guests to an audio broadcast before it goes live.
