NEW DELHI: Microsoft started rolling out the final build of Windows 11 earlier this month. Windows 11 is expected to be available as a free upgrade for all Windows PCs and laptops that meet the minimum operating system requirements.
Although Microsoft has already announced a walkaround to bypass TPM 2.0 and processor requirements, the company has also warned users against installing the operating system on unsupported devices.
The company has also stated that unsupported devices may not receive future cumulative updates for Windows 11.
While most modern PCs are powerful enough to run Windows 11 without breaking a sweat, Microsoft has placed very strict system requirements on the operating system, especially on older generation processors
If you aren’t aware, Windows 11 requires at least a 7th generation Intel Core processor or an AMD 2nd generation Ryzen processor.
The only reason Microsoft has ever made such stringent requirements is because of the increased security for the operating system.
The company has now released a new video explaining the importance of the security features that are required and mandatory to run Windows 11.
Microsoft has highlighted that the Windows 11 operating system was designed with security first. According to the company, Windows 11 is the most secure version of Windows ever.
The first and most important aspect behind the strict system requirements is “reliability”. Microsoft mentions that “maintaining reliability over time is highly correlated with OEM and IHV driver support. The processors supported under Windows 11 are in OEM and IHV support and use modern (DCH) drivers ”.
According to the company, the use of modern drivers will allow Microsoft to manage and update them in a coordinated manner through Windows Update and provide a better mechanism for tracking device health. This improves the reliability of the entire system.
Another important requirement is the Trusted and Secure Boot. Microsoft states that with the help of Secure Boot and Trusted Boot, which require both UEFI and TPM hardware, they can help users minimize the damage should a computer be compromised. These two prevent hackers or spammers from gaining access to and modifying the system’s bootkits and rootkits.
Ultimately, it comes down to user performance and safety. Microsoft has also stated that unsupported systems are likely to have 52% more kernel crashes compared to supported devices. The company also claims that systems that meet Windows 11 requirements are expected to be 99.8% crash free.
In addition, systems with older processors running Windows 11 have performance issues, according to a series of tests the company conducted on older hardware.
