T-Mobile un-carrier event scheduled for May 4

After posting strong first-quarter figures for 2022, it looks like T-Mobile isn’t going to rest on its praise. US Carriers has announced a new event set for May 4. The teaser image has pegged this as an un-carrier event, so things could get quite interesting.

Although details are sparse at this point, the press release said that CEO Mike Sievert will be on hand with other executives. The company has revealed a slogan for the event, “it doesn’t need one To establish”. What does this mean, one can guess.

Non-carrier events break the mold

If unfamiliar, the un-carrier movement began at a time when the cellular industry was dominated by the two largest carriers in the United States: AT&T and Verizon. To change the landscape, T-Mobile launched its un-carrier marketing campaign. Wireless carriers started offering innovative services along with incredible pricing.

Some of the benefits brought about by past T-Mobile un-carrier events include closing contracts and offering cheaper plans for single and multi-line users. Mobile carriers allowed their customers to upgrade handsets three times a year, at a time when waiting two years was standard practice in the wireless industry. An un-carrier event also offered to pay the wireless carrier’s early termination fee when joining T-Mobile. T-Mobile Tuesday rewards customers with free goods and services every Tuesday.

Naturally, it was only a matter of time before the hype slowed down. The last un-carrier event held in 2020 provided free protection against scam blocking to customers. While beneficial, it did not have the same fire as previous incidents. Hopefully, T-Mobile and CEO Mike Sievert will be able to bring the wireless industry to the edge once again. Those who are interested can tune in to the live stream on May 4. The official start time is 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET.
