Corning Incorporated has announced a new category for its scratch-resistant, durable glass composite products: Corning Gorilla glass with DX and Corning Gorilla Glass with DX +. These were developed to cover the lens of the smartphone camera and to protect it from scratches and damage, as well as to reduce the loss of light that enters the lens as a reflection, in order to ensure that optimal light falls into the lens for the recording.
“Applying this technology to cameras on mobile devices enables professional image capture through the combination of optical performance, scratch resistance and durability,” said Corning. Samsung will be the first customer to use Gorilla Glass DX products for camera lens covers, ”Corning said in a press release.
Corning claims that the latest technology will help use the anti-reflective coatings on the outside of the lens to capture 98% of the incident light for the camera lens. The company says the glass composites not only protect the camera lens, but also enhance camera design skills and help create high quality images and videos
“Anti-reflective coatings have long been used on traditional cameras to improve light detection,” said Jaymin Amin, vice president and general manager of Corning Gorilla Glass. “However, these coatings tend to be easily scratched, which has a negative impact on image quality. In addition to providing camera lens covers for mobile devices with improved scratch resistance and durability over traditional coatings, Corning’s Gorilla Glass composites also provide the improved optical performance required for these devices. ”
