The highly anticipated Spatial Audio and Lossless Music features are now available in India. Apple rolled out the iOS 14.7 update last night, giving users two new features. Apple music will contain 75 million songs in lossless audio quality. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is now also available on Apple Music.
What is lossless audio?
The audio files that manage to retain the original data while composing a particular song are known as lossless music files. Many of the songs lose their “originality” when compressed – something that lossless audio files preserve. Apple uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every single bit of the original audio file. This means fans can hear their favorite songs exactly as the artists created them in the studio
Do you need additional data for Lossless?
Yes, than lossless music files, they would consume a lot more data when streaming music. Also, keep in mind that these files also take up a lot more space on your device. Apple Music’s lossless level starts at CD quality, which is 16 bits at 44.1 kHz (kilohertz) and goes up to 24 bits at 48 kHz and is playable natively on Apple devices. For real audiophiles, Apple Music also offers High-Resolution Lossless up to 24 bits at 192 kHz.
Which devices do you need for Lossless?
You can listen to Lossless on iPhone, iPad. However, you will need wired headphones or speakers to do this. Or just listen to it through the built-in speakers. Unfortunately, AirPods do not support lossless.
Do you have to pay anything extra for Lossless?
No, there is no additional charge for lossless audio files in Apple Music.
Does it work on Android devices?
Yes, Lossless on Apple Music works on Android phones too. It will be rolled out soon.
How do I get lossless audio?
To hear lossless audio, subscribers using the latest version of Apple Music can turn it on in Settings> Music> Audio Quality. Here you can select different resolutions for different connections such as cellular network, WLAN or for download.
